BCWD Holds Key Meetings to Address Potential Water Supply Reduction (August 8, 2025 9:30AM)
August 7, 2025 – In response to the ongoing dry weather conditions and looming threat of reduced water supply, the Butuan City Water District (BCWD) convened two crucial meetings today to coordinate immediate mitigation measures and strengthen inter-agency collaboration.
The first meeting was held at 10:00 AM, bringing together key partners involved in water rationing operations. In attendance were representatives from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Chinese-Filipino Fire Brigade, and VCDU Corporation. The discussion focused on outlining logistics, identifying available resources, and ensuring that all pumping stations and watering points for water tankers would be fully operational in anticipation of possible service interruptions.
Later in the afternoon, at 3:30 PM, BCWD also met with Butuan City Mayor Lawrence Lemual Fortun, representatives from the Taguibo Aquatech Solutions Corporation (TASC)—BCWD’s bulk water supplier, the City Public Information Office (PIO), and the City Administrator to provide an updated briefing on the situation and coordinate the City's official response plan.
During both meetings, BCWD presented the current water supply situationer and emphasized the continued lack of rainfall affecting Sitio Iyao, Brgy. Anticala, where the watershed and water intake facilities of TASC are located. The adverse hydrological conditions in the area have raised concerns over a potential decrease in raw water availability, which could lead to temporary supply shortages in parts of the city.
Participants discussed possible scenarios and preparatory actions to ensure minimal disruption to public services and household consumption. Among the proposed measures are:
• Deployment of water tankers to critical areas.
• Prioritization of supply for hospitals, evacuation centers, and schools.
• Intensified public information campaigns to promote water conservation.
• Ensuring that all support infrastructure (e.g., pumping stations and filling points) are functional and ready for deployment.
Mayor Fortun expressed his support for BCWD’s proactive approach and reiterated the city's commitment to working hand-in-hand with partner agencies and the private sector to safeguard the water needs of Butuanons.
BCWD assures the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and will issue timely updates through its official Facebook page and Website. The agency also appeals to all consumers to use water responsibly and report leaks or wastage to help conserve the available supply.
