ADVISORY: BCWD to Implement Mitigating Measures in Response to Potential Water Supply Reduction (August 6, 2025 8:00PM)

The Butuan City Water District (BCWD) informs the public of a possible temporary reduction in water supply from August 8 to August 30, 2025, due to the prevailing hydrological condition in the Taguibo River, which may affect the volume delivered by the Taguibo Aquatech Solutions Corporation (TASC). To address this situation and sustain water service to its concessionaires, BCWD will implement several mitigating measures.
If the supply reduction will be implemented by TASC, BCWD will energize four pump stations—Pump Station Nos. 1, 14, 15, and 17. These facilities are expected to contribute an additional 6.43 million liters per day (MLD) to the current water supply. This initiative aims to cushion the impact of the anticipated water shortage, particularly during periods of low streamflow from the Taguibo source.
In addition, BCWD will reconfigure its transmission and distribution lines, specifically on the East Side of Butuan City, if TASC’s delivery volume falls below 56.5 MLD. This reconfiguration involves isolating the East Side from the main transmission line and supplying it exclusively through Pump Stations 1, 14, and 15, which serve a total of 9,484 water service connections. Pump Station 17 will operate independently to supply the Taguibo area, which has 478 service connections. Meanwhile, the West Side of the city will continue to be served by the main transmission line, with water sourced from TASC. This strategic reallocation of water resources is designed to optimize distribution efficiency and provide more stable service in the face of reduced supply.
Should TASC’s supply drop further, to below 50 MLD, BCWD will activate additional contingency measures. These include the implementation of Operation Sag-Ob and the deployment of water tankers for rationing. These measures are intended to improve water availability across affected areas and to minimize incidents of low water pressure or service interruptions, especially during peak hours.
BCWD remains committed to pursuing both short- and long-term solutions to ensure a reliable, sustainable, and resilient water service for all its concessionaires. Meanwhile, BCWD will provide daily updates through BCWD’s official Facebook Page and Website.
