BCWD ADVISORY: Conserve Water This Holy Week and Whenever Leaving Your Home - Avoid High Bills!
To all residents served by the Butuan City Water District (BCWD), Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte, Philippines:
As we approach the solemn observance of Holy Week, and as a general reminder for all instances when you will be leaving your residence unattended (whether for a short trip, a long vacation, or any period without household members present), Butuan City Water District strongly advises you to close your individual water service connection before departing.
During this Holy Week, many of you may be traveling for religious observances, family gatherings, or leisure. By taking the simple yet responsible step of closing your water connection, you can significantly contribute to:
1. Preventing Unnecessary Water Consumption AND AVOIDING HIGH WATER BILLS:
Leaks or drips that may occur while your home is unattended can lead to substantial water wastage. This wasted water is still metered, resulting in a significantly higher water bill that you will be responsible for upon your return.
2. Avoiding Potential Property Damage During Your Absence:
Unexpected plumbing issues such as bursts or leaks can cause significant damage to your property and belongings if not addressed promptly. Closing the main valve mitigates this risk and the associated repair costs.
3. Ensuring Water Availability for the Entire Community:
Conserving water individually helps maintain water supply for all residents within our district's service area, ensuring that everyone has access to this essential resource, especially during periods of potentially higher demand.
The Cost of Unnecessary Consumption:
Remember that even a small, continuous leak can waste hundreds or even thousands of liters of water over several days or weeks. This wasted water directly translates to a higher consumption reading on your meter and a consequently larger water bill. By closing your connection, you eliminate this financial risk.
How to close your water connection:
Before leaving your home, please locate the main shut-off valve for your property. This is usually found near your water meter. Turn the valve firmly in a clockwise direction until you are certain that the water flow has completely stopped.
We urge everyone to be mindful of their water usage, not only during this Holy Week but also as a standard practice whenever leaving their homes unattended. Protecting your property from potential water damage and avoiding unexpectedly high water bills are compelling reasons to take this simple precaution. Your cooperation is also vital for the efficient and sustainable management of our community's water resources.
Let us all have a peaceful, meaningful, and responsible Holy Week.
Thank you for your cooperation.
