BCWD Operates Newly Installed 500 Cu. m. Ground Tank
The Butuan City Water District (BCWD) has operated the newly installed 500-cubic-meter ground tank along Km. 6 in Brgy. Libertad.
Construction works started on January 24, 2015 and completed on March 5, 2015, the project is an additional vital facility to support BCWD’s operation at elevated areas. After passing the 24-hour disinfection procedure, testing for water refilling and discharging was conducted on March 9, 2015 and was operational thereafter improving the water system pressure in Brgy. Bancasi and Brgy. Pinamanculan, and later Brgy. Dumalagan.
Disinfection procedure subjected the inside surface of the tank for preliminary washing/spraying using a 200-ppm (parts per million) chlorine solution and afterwards, storage of water within 24 hours with 50-ppm chlorine concentration. After laboratory analysis of water samples from the tank after 24 hours, it was verified that the tank was already ready for operation.
During non-peak hours, this tank will be refilled with water coming from the mainline and will be continuously discharged to the aforesaid barangays through the aid of a booster pump equipped with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). This VFD will enable the booster pump to maintain the desired system pressure in these areas. The prevailing pressure at the inlet line of the tank will be raised to as much as 552 KPa (kilopascal) or 80 psi (pounds per square inch) in order to reach to farthest end of the system in these barangays. The standard or desired residual pressure at the water taps should be 69 KPa (10 psi) which is enough for households to enjoy shower bath.
This project is under Package 14: Construction of a 500-Cubic-Meter Ground Steel Reservoir along Km. 6 in Brgy. Libertad, Butuan City (Design and Build Scheme) with contract price of Four Million Three Hundred Eighty Eight Thousand Pesos (P 4,388,000.00) performed by Reftec Industrial Supply and Services Inc., the winning supplier of the Public Bidding conducted. The financial allocation for the realization of this Project is through the BCWD Capital Expense (CAPEX) budget.
