BCWD IMPLEMENTS NEW PROCESS FOR RENEWAL OF SR. CITIZENS PRIVILEGES

The Butuan City Water District (BCWD) has been implementing Senior Citizen discount of five percent (5%) to its concessionaires in accordance with R.A. No. 9994 – Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 effective July 6, 2010. To improve customer services, BCWD has decided to amend its process of the annual renewal of the Senior Citizen Privileges effective September 2023.
It can be recalled that per Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) Memorandum Circular No. 008-10, its implementation states that:
“Please be informed that RA No. 9994 Article 12 Sec. 1 grants a minimum of five percent (5%) discount relative to the monthly water consumption provided that it does not exceed thirty cubic meters (30 cu.m.). This privilege is granted per household regardless of the number of senior citizens residing therein. To avail of such discount, the senior citizen shall:
1. Apply for the discount personally or thru a representative. There shall be annual renewal of application to the utility provider.
2. Submit the requirements:
a) Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) Identification Card.
b) Proof of billing. Meter registration should be in the name of the senior citizen for a period of one year.
The effectivity of this benefit is July 6, 2010 or July consumption and August billing. Likewise, commercial establishments under the name of the senior citizen are not included in this benefit.”
Thus, BCWD announces to its consuming public that it is now implementing the new and simpler process for the Annual Renewal of the Application for the Availment of the Senior Citizen Discount.
Instead of visiting the office, a representative from BCWD will visit the home of the senior citizen concessionaire to renew the senior citizen discount privileges. BCWD only requires the senior citizen concessionaire to present their OSCA ID upon visitation of the BCWD representative. Upon presentation of the OSCA ID, the senior citizen concessionaire will just have to sign BCWD standard forms for renewal of Senior Citizen Discount and have his/her picture taken together with the OSCA ID.
For those senior citizens that have not yet availed of this privilege, you may apply at the BCWD office. Please be reminded that said discount is renewable annually.
