BCWD Kicks off Watershed Community Symposium series
The Butuan City Water District (BCWD) kicked off its 2020 Watershed Community Symposium with a visit at Sitio Dugyaman, Barangay Anticala and Barangay Pianing last January 21-22, 2020. A total of 181 participated in the said activity for the two (2) barangays with a total of 89 coming from Sitio Dugyaman, Brgy. Anticala and 92 coming from Barangay Pianing.
The 1st quarter Watershed Community Symposium is conducted by BCWD as part of the celebration of the Water District Week every last full week of January and the City Ordained Watershed Consciousness Week every 3rd week of January.
Aside from BCWD, partner stakeholders also participated in the said activity as resource speakers of the symposium, namely: Jonathan Budlat assisted by Juliebee Cabarles from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Caraga who discussed about Forestry Laws; Cymagine Donna A. Dela Rosa and Ailyn dela Peña from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Caraga who discussed about the Water Quality Management Area (WQMA) specifically Taguibo River and about the Water Quality of Taguibo River; Ms. Bernardita Tecson from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office who discussed about Solid Waste and Other SP Ordinances related to environmental concerns; and Rosemarie Alas Adobas and Margie P. Guliman of DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office – Nasipit who discussed about the Importance of Trees and Importance of Watershed.
The Watershed Community Symposium is an Information Education Campaign (IEC) activity of BCWD to ensure the continuing awareness and education of watershed settlers and its continuum. This is BCWD’s way of watershed protection and preservation by starting with the grassroot level.
