EL NIÑO WATCH: WATER SUPPLY STATUS UPDATE
For the month, Butuan City has been experiencing hot weather and having little to no rain due to El Niño. As of April 18, 2024, the dam intake water level of the Taguibo Aquatech Solutions Corporation (TASC), the bulk water supplier of the Butuan City Water District (BCWD), is only at 3.4 meters. The normal operating level of the dam intake is above 4 meters while the critical level is at 4 meters. It can be observed that the dam intake water level has lowered down below the critical level which now at 3.4 meters. Thus, TASC has informed BCWD that it will lower down its water volume delivery as one of its mitigating measures of the effects of El Niño to its facilities if the drought will continue.
BCWD’s bulk water supplier – TASC, will conduct emergency supply reduction at its facility in Sitio Iyao, Barangay Anticala if no rain will be experienced in the coming days. As such, TASC will then be delivering only 50 Million Liters per Day (MLD) of water supply to BCWD compared to TASC’s usual delivery of 56-60 MLD.
Once TASC’s water supply delivery to BCWD is lowered down to 50MLD, below is the list of affected areas with its schedule of water availability:
12:00AM to 4:00AM - Barangays Ambago and San Vicente
12:00AM to 5:00AM - Barangays Libertad and Villa Kananga
9:00AM to 5:00AM - Barangay San Ignacio
10:00AM to 5:00AM - Barangays Obrero and Pagatpatan
11:00AM to 5:00AM - Barangay Doongan
11:00AM to 6:00AM - Barangay J.P. Rizal
12:00PM to 5:00AM - Barangays Imadejas, Maon, and Ong Yiu
12:00PM to 7:00AM - Barangay Babag
1:00PM to 5:00AM - Barangay Bayanihan
2:00PM to 5:00AM - Barangay Agusan Pequeño
3:00PM to 5:00AM - Barangay Holy Redeemer
11:00PM to 4:00AM - Barangay Pangabugan
11:00PM to 5:00AM - Barangay Bonbon
The rest of the barangays within the service area of BCWD not found in the list above will still have normal water supply.
BCWD is now closely coordinating with TASC for updates on its water supply. Due to the critical situation of the Taguibo River, BCWD encourages its concessionaires to conserve water in the midst of this El Niño. Furthermore, concessionaires are advised to store water when water is available as a precaution.
Expect a daily water supply update from BCWD at its official Facebook page while the effect of the El Niño phenomenon is still experienced.
